An Introduction to Raspberry Pi
What is a Raspberry Pi?
Raspberry Pi is a small credit card sized computer with a built in Broadcom "SOC" or System on Chip. It is known for its compact form factor, powerful hardware, easy connectivity,
general purpose I/O pins and most interesting of them all is the linux operating system it runs which makes it easy to run a wide variety of software on it. In this article, we'll introduce raspberry pi and it's applications along with
a brief description of different models available and their minimum technical details.
Raspberry Pi was first released in February 2012. It was initially designed to teach programming to kids
Raspberry Pi series of credit card sized computers is developed in the United Kingdom by the
Foundation. The intent behind development of Raspberry Pi is to promote the teaching of basic programming in schools around the world. The
of the computer was released in 2012 after which several generations of the Raspberry Pi have been released. The cheapest of all models is the "PiZero" model which is small in size and
has limited I/O capabilities. It costs only $5.
Features of Raspberry Pi 3
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is the most recent version of the Raspberry Pi. Following are some of the features of Raspberry Pi 3.

OS for Raspberry Pi and Noobs
Raspberry Pi Runs Rasbian OS among others. Rasbian is a Linux variant and is available for free download.

There's a better way to boot Raspberry Pi. If you are looking for a simple way to install Rasbian on your Raspberry Pi, you can do so using NOOBS
. NOOBS is an acronym for "New Out of the Box Software"
and NOOBS project provides with an easy OS installer for Raspberry Pi. You can also buy SD cards with pre-installed NOOBS.
Apart from Rasbian, Raspberry Pi also supports other Operating Systems including but not limited to:
- Windows 10 IOT Core
- Snappy Ubuntu Core
- Ubuntu Mate

Here are some easy to understand definitions of technical jargon used in the above post.
- Form-Factor: Form factor of an electronics chip defines it's physical shape and size. Small form factor corresponds to a smaller shape and size.
- System on Chip: System on Chip or SOC is an electronics chip which integrates all components of a system on a single chip. Components may include digital, analog or radio frequency components.
